Truck Insurance From a Brisbane-Based Broker

Insuregroup is a specialist truck and heavy vehicle insurance broker with its office in Brisbane City. We arrange cover for owner-drivers, fleet operators and transport businesses based in Brisbane and South East Queensland, and for operators right across Australia. Whether your trucks run local deliveries, work on civil sites or run interstate, we look at how the business actually operates and find cover options that fit.

If you run trucks in other states as well, our truck insurance Australia page covers national and interstate operations in more detail.

What to expect

Where Brisbane Trucks Work

Brisbane trucks do a wide mix of work, and each pattern of use changes what a policy needs to handle:

  • Port and container work. Trucks running containers between the Port of Brisbane, depots and distribution centres spend a lot of time in queues, yards and busy motorway traffic.
  • Metro freight and delivery. Rigid trucks, pantechs and tabletops doing multi-drop runs across the city and suburbs face frequent stops, tight loading areas and reversing in public places.
  • Construction and civil. Tippers, agitators, crane trucks and water carts working on building and infrastructure projects need cover that thinks about site risk as well as road risk.
  • Regional and interstate runs. Many Brisbane operators run north on the Bruce Highway, west on the Warrego Highway through Ipswich and Toowoomba, south-west on the Cunningham Highway, or south on the Pacific Motorway into New South Wales.

Tell us the work you do and the routes you run. Insurers rate trucks on use, radius and the type of goods carried, so an accurate description up front helps avoid gaps later.

Queensland Rules That Affect Your Truck Insurance

Heavy Vehicle National Law

Queensland is one of the states where the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) applies, and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) administers it. Mass, dimension and loading rules, fatigue management and chain of responsibility duties all sit under the HVNL. Insurance does not replace compliance, but a breach can affect how a claim is handled. Our guides on the HVNL and truck insurance and on chain of responsibility explain the link.

CTP Is Not Truck Insurance

In Queensland, Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is paid with your vehicle registration. CTP covers injuries to other people caused by your vehicle. It does not cover damage to your truck, to other vehicles or to property. That is the job of a commercial motor policy. Our guide to CTP versus comprehensive cover for heavy vehicles sets out the difference.

Weather and Flood

Storms and flooding can close roads and damage trucks parked in depots and yards. Check how your policy treats storm and flood damage, where the truck is garaged overnight, and whether there are limits on cover during declared events. Our Queensland truck insurance guide covers wet season risks and long runs in more detail.

Types of Truck Cover We Arrange in Brisbane

Comprehensive Cover

Covers accidental damage to your truck, theft, and your legal liability for damage to other people’s vehicles and property, subject to the policy terms.

Fire, Theft and Third Party Property

A step down from comprehensive, covering fire and theft of your truck plus your liability for damage you cause to others.

Third Party Property Only

Covers your legal liability for damage to other people’s vehicles and property, but not damage to your own truck.

Options Worth Asking About

  • Goods in transit or carrier’s liability for the freight you carry
  • Downtime or loss of income cover while an insured truck is off the road
  • Towing and recovery limits, including recovery from outside the metro area
  • Cover for trailers, bodies, cranes, hoists and other attachments
  • Fleet insurance once you run several trucks

Who We Work With

We work with single-truck owner-drivers, subcontractors working for head contractors, family transport businesses and larger fleets. Common truck types include prime movers, semi-trailers, rigid trucks, refrigerated trucks, tilt trays, tow trucks and dump trucks.

For combined truck and machinery operations, see our guide to truck and plant insurance in Brisbane.

Questions We Get Asked

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have an office in Brisbane?

Yes. Insuregroup's office is at 18/333 Ann Street, Brisbane City. We arrange truck insurance for operators in Brisbane, South East Queensland and across Australia, by phone, online or in person.

Does Queensland CTP cover damage to my truck?

No. In Queensland, CTP is paid with your registration and covers injuries to other people caused by your vehicle. Damage to your truck, other vehicles or property needs a commercial motor policy.

Can you insure trucks that also run interstate?

Yes. Tell us the routes and states your trucks travel through so the policy is rated for that use. Interstate trucks are still subject to the Heavy Vehicle National Law in the states where it applies.
